Coaching for Schools

More and more schools are becoming aware of the educational benefits conferred on students who learn to play chess. Indeed, teachers are finding that chess offers something special to many students who do not excel, or perhaps are not interested, in other subject areas.

A large part of the Gardiner Chess business is providing ongoing chess coaching services to schools and we currently operate in dozens of schools in south east Queensland and northern New South Wales each week. Through our franchise arm IQ Chess, we are also offering these services to Far North Queensland and North Queensland Regions. We aim eventually to offer chess to schools throughout Queensland. At several schools we provide a few hours each week, whilst in others we just provide one hour per week. Our aim is to work with school staff to develop an ongoing chess culture within each school.

Some schools have chess as an activity, some have it in the curriculum, whilst others have it before or after school, or at lunchtime, on a designated day each week. Some schools use budget funds, and in others the 'user pays'.

If the school doesn't wish to be involved with collecting monies, an alternative is for Gardiner Chess to provide enrolment forms. In this case we usually invoice parents around week three or four of each term.

We offer to give a 5 minute presentation in assembly in schools within reasonable reach of our base in Mudgeeraba (Gold Coast), with the aim of maximising enrolments.

There are many elements to a successful, ongoing chess programme, so please contact us if you would like us to discuss this further, or to provide you with our standard information. Email info@gardinerchess.com, Phone 07 5522 7221 or Fax 07 5522 7760
