Rules and Conditions

School zones will be split into grades on each day. Play will begin at 9:00 am and end at 3:00 pm each day. Please note, all teams play on finals day.  

  1. As a general rule, the competition will be conducted in accordance with the current FIDE Laws of Chess.

  2. Players will play in strength order so that the board prizes will be awarded correctly.

  3. Reserves may be substituted for absent players, bearing in mind Rule 2.

  4. Schools or teams not able to afford fees can apply for a reduced fee, according to circumstances. No teams will be turned away because of cost.

  5. Results will be used to help select Juniors for the Gold Coast Representative Team, the Australian Junior Championships and other representative squads.

  6. Many players will receive a Queensland Junior Chess rating, which is an indication of strength in comparison to all other junior players in Queensland.

Prizes for Primary Schools

Teams

First, second and third places will receive individual trophies for team members and a school trophy together with chess books, equipment, and or software for the school library.

Individuals

The board winners will receive trophies and chess books.
