Instructions to enter names via Internet Portal

An internet-based schools' entry portal is available to allow direct entry of teams by competing schools (and subsequent amendments or deletions if necessary). The portal is designed to simplify the entry process for schools and streamline the processing of entries with improved accuracy and efficiency.

STEP 1 - Register your school name (if you haven't already done so for a previous interschool tournament) by clicking HERE and 'create a new account' by filling in the details requested.

STEP 2 - You will quickly receive notification by email with the log-in details, including your school name and a password - please make a careful note of them, or save them with other important emails. You will need these when you register the names of your players.

STEP 3 - Once you have your list of players, and are ready to enter them, click HERE again to re-enter the portal and type in exactly the same school name and your password but be aware that there are capital letters and numbers in the password and there can be confusion for example between letter I and number 1 and and letter L as lower case l - they are all very similar. This can be avoided by copying and pasting your password directly from your email notification.

STEP 4 - Look at the list of tournaments and decide which one is the appropriate one for your school region, and whether Primary or High school. Click on this tournament.

STEP 5 - Type in the firstname and surname accurately for the first player. If this player has a Queensland Junior Rating, their rating will automatically appear, as will their date of birth. If not a rated player you will need to add the details. Continue to input the players' names and give each team of 4 players (or fewer if a part team) a simple team name or number, preferably ranked by rating or ability. Don't repeat the school name as this will already register with your entry.

STEP 6 - You are able to edit names, add more, remove names, etc, anytime up to 2 days before the relevant tournament. After this time, the portal will be closed. Any changes, additions, etc after this should be emailed directly to entries@gardinerchess.com, or notify us by phone or fax.

STEP 7 - We are here to help you, so please don't panic! Call us on 07 5522 7221, or email entries@gardinerchess.com for speedy help.

NOTES

The portal will not allow you to register a school name that has been used previously, so you will need to modify the name by adding the suburb to identify it (for example, we have 11 chess playing St Joseph's!). If you have forgotten your password, follow the prompts to have it emailed to you, or contact us directly for help.

The names need to be spelt exactly the same as in the Q Rating List or their rating will not appear. This is easy to check by consulting the list here. If the rating issued is incorrect because your entry coincides with a new ratings lists being published, please be assured this will be corrected before the event.

If you know any details are incorrect, like the date of birth or spelling of the names, just edit them after registering them if you can. If one of your players has the same name as another player from elsewhere, just add an initial (even if it is fictitious) and edit it out afterwards. Failing that, just contact us with the details so that we can amend the entry.

Entry by form, fax or email

The entry forms for all regions of Queensland and northern NSW are offered in two different formats - one to be sent in by email and one that can be faxed to Gardiner Chess.

  • For the email-based form, click here and save the file with the name of your school, fill in the details and send the form by email to entries@gardinerchess.com

  • For the faxable version of the form click here and fax to (07) 5522 7760.
