Toowoomba Primary School Individual Chess Championship, 2007

The annual Primary School Individual Chess Championship was held on Tuesday 13th March 2007
at Christian Outreach College in their large church auditorium.

There were 266 students from around the Toowoomba Region participating in the Tournament, with just over a quarter being girls.

The tournament was over 8 rounds with Lawson Chalmers of Gabbinbar State School being the
eventual winner with 7½/8. Five students finished on 7/8, namely Travis Baker, Alex Kendall (pictured holding his trophy below), Michael van Gend, Jamie Bradshaw & Alex Miles. That was their order of position based on the countback.

The tournament was a great success with good press from the Chronicle and the Courier Mail.

Congratulations to Les Lord, Ross Mills and their colleagues on the fantastic turnout of 263 players (compared with 108 for last year) for their primary inter-schools event held on 13th March. This may be the best 'per capita' turnout in Australia. Brilliant effort!
