Coffs Harbour Open, 2008

 

Graeme took a busload of 8 kids plus Axel Stahnke and John Alkin to the Coffs Harbour Open. Gene Nakauchi defeated IM Stephen Solomon, who has been selected on board three for the Australian Olympiad team, in round 6. Not to be outdone, Jonas Muller defeated Gene in the final round to take outright second place and $600. Gene and Sam Grigg came third equal with Solomon. The other students Alex Stahnke, Daniel Lapitan, Martin Jack, Robbie Peck and Alex Miles all won prizes. The winner was new Australian number one player, GM Zong-Yuan Zhao, who has just been selected on board one for the Australian Olympiad team.
