The stars of the 2008 Qld Junior Championships were Gene Nakauchi and Andrew Brown, who came first equal in the Under 18 event, Alex Stahnke who won the Under 12s with 7.5/8, and Martin Jack who won the Under 10s with the only picket fence of 8/8. Jonas Muller, who won the Under 16s on 6/8, and Robin Wei from Cairns, who won the Under 14s on 5/8, also did extremely well. Andrew Brown was ineligible for the title as he hails from Canberra.
 
GM Ian Rogers was pleased with the high standard of the event, and awarded best game prizes to Jonas Muller, Sam Grigg, Gene Nakauchi and Andrew Brown. Other encouragement awards went to Jake Pyper, Callum Gray and Mythra Schwartz.

Queensland Under 8
 
Congratulations to James Kay who convincingly won the Queensland Under 8 title with a picket fence 8/8. Second was Max Hornigold on 6 and third Adrian Cho on 5.5. There were 16 participants, one of whom had celebrated his 4th birthday two weeks previously. Perhaps a champion in the making . . .
