Thirty Children, 15 locals and 15 from as far away as Toowoomba and the Gold Coast, gathered on the Sunshine Coast at Chancellor State College for the 2006 Medal Event. This tournament is traditionally run parallel to the Girl’s State Titles on the second day and is open to any under 1000 Juniors.
In a friendly but competitive atmosphere, this was a good opportunity for the rated players to play a few ‘new faces’ and for the less experienced to have a go in the tournament scene.
The top rated player, Arul Ravindran (949) from Brisbane, took 1st Place, unbeaten with 9.5 pts from the ten games. Martin Jack was 2nd with 8 pts and Alex Miles and Robbie Peck 3rd Equal on 7 pts.
The top Suncoast players were the brothers Chase and Arden O’Connell on 6.5 pts, while the Unrated Medals went to Ricki Espin, Grace Byrne, Callum McLintock and Andrew Williams.
Harry Hughes, a six year old with a rating of 590, had an excellent tournament finishing in 6th Place with 6.5 pts.
We all look forward to next year’s Medal Event, possibly to be held in Brisbane. See you there!
