Wendy Terry Memorial

ago.Wendy's husband Clive and daughter Andrea were there to
celebrate Wendy's life, and also to sponsor the event and
present prizes.
IM
Stephen Solomon followed up his perfect 9 from 9 score at the
Gold Coast Allegro last week with a picket fence 6/6 in this
event. Second equal were Damian Norris and Michael Cashman.
There were 48 players.
Gold Coast Transfer and Lightning Championships - next
Sunday, 6 November at the Chess Centre
If
you like transfer chess and/or lightning chess, then come to the
chess centre next Sunday and be part of it. In each competition
there are 13 rounds. And the cost for each comp is $15 for
adults and juniors.
The
transfer competition starts at 9am. It would be good if you are
able to nominate your partner, but if not, we will try and pair
you with someone appropriate. The lightning comp starts at
1.30pm. As usual, there will be good prizes.
Queensland Junior Ratings List out today
The
new QJRL is up on our website at

Trip to Coffs Harbour Open - Sat/Sun 12/13 November
We
will be taking the chess bus to Coffs Harbour. There are already
several bookings, and we will have to close off soon. So get in
quick. The cost is $95 for the bus trip and accommodation. We
leave the chess centre at 4pm on the Friday, and return
approximately 8.30pm on the Sunday. We have been advised that
early entries include IM Zong Yuan Zhao and IM Gary Lane. This
was an excellent event last year, and no doubt this year will be
the same.

Ian
Murray and Graeme Gardiner are organising strong coaches to
coach juniors throughout the Australian Juniors. Coaching will
involve pre-game preparation and after game analysis for each
round. Cost will be $150 for the duration of the event. Coaching
of juniors has considerably lifted the standard in recent
years. If interested, please contact Ian on 3349 5648 or Graeme
on 5522 7221.
Worried about transport? For most people a good financial option
is to take it turns to car-pool or go by train (weekly passes).
Roma Street Railway Station is only 5 minutes walk from the
playing venue.
Trip to Queenstown, NZ 12 Jan to 25 Jan 2006
At
the time of writing, there are already 119 entries for the

events ever held in the Oceania region. Gardiner Chess has
submitted entries for our group. At this late stage, we still
have two places available in our party. But you will need to be
quick.

not choose a chess present to give at Christmas? Maybe a really
nice wooden Staunton set from a good range. A CD or DVD (eg
Searching for Bobby Fischer - the movie, or Chessmaster 10. or
Fritz 9 which is just out). We can do a really good price on the
Chessbase Starter Pack. And a great range of books to choose
from. Also a special price on the top of the range DGT XL
