The
Venue
for the 2013
Australian Junior Chess Championships,
organised by Gardiner Chess on behalf of the Chess Association
of Queensland, will be
the
Sports Hall, Bond University, Varsity Lakes, Gold Coast [level 2
in building 10 - see
map]. The
entrance to the University is at the junction of Cottesloe and
University Drives in the suburb of Robina, which is
approximately 3 kilometres from the seaside suburbs of Miami and
Burleigh. There is an excellent bus service from the whole
coastline right to the campus, however there may be some
disruption due to the construction of the Rapid Transit system. There is plenty of parking on
campus. Accommodation possibilities are many - hints can be found
here.
Cafes and Restaurants
There are a few cafes and
restaurants close to the Sports Hall on campus. Nearby is the
Juicy Bits Cafe - see the website
here. Also the
Brasserie at Cafe Bond 2 would be perfect for kids' meals.
Other eating places at Bond
University can be seen
here.
A short 10 minute
stroll from the Sports Hall are the Varsity Lakes shops,
which include several cafes and restaurants, and general
shopping.
Sponsors
We are very pleased
to have Bond University as our major sponsor. They have
provided their facilities free of charge, and they are welcoming
us with open arms. They clearly place a value in connecting with
chess - the academic sport. So let's put on a good show for
them!
We are also indebted
to our Gold Sponsor, Vodafone, for their help in
defraying some of the costs incurred in running a tournament of
this size.
The

will continue with the family-friendly format that was

constitution
bylaws will apply to the championships.
Tournament entry is free
for GMs, WGMs, IMs and WIMs.
All players have the right of

be received within an hour of the decision being handed down. An
appeals committee will be convened at the start of the event and
announced on the tournament website.
In order to deter frivolous appeals, an appeal must
be accompanied by a $100 fee, refundable in the event of a
successful appeal.
A 30 minute forfeit time
applies from the round's scheduled start time.
Unless otherwise stated, the
FIDE Laws of Chess will apply to the championships
Prizes
Overall there will be 12 championships to be
decided, and 36 trophies and over $5000 in prize money to be
awarded. The prizes are listed
here.
Coaching
Some players may wish to avail themselves of a
private chess coach, both in
the lead up, and during these national championships.
Listed below are professional
chess coaches that have intimated that they are interested
in coaching private students. If you are interested in
private lessons, please contact one of these coaches direct,
and make your own logistical and financial arrangements.
These coaches are offering
their services as private agents, and not as employees of
either Gardiner Chess or CAQ (Chess Association of
Queensland).
